Don't Sink Your Own Ship!

A reminder to myself, and to anyone who needs some insight ~

Don't Sink Your Own Ship!

You know what you've been putting off - and doing nothing about it won't get you anywhere. (Let's see, "Ten percent of nothing, let me do the math here, nothing into nothing, carry the nothin'.")

If you're ship is sinking, ignorance is not bliss - doing nothing won't fix the leak. [💦]

Ignoring the problem won't make it disappear. Neglecting it will probably just make it worse. Instead, face it head on. Try something. Something is better than nothing.

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing."
- Theodore Roosevelt -

And one interesting aspect of a problem is that - looked in the right light - it can also be an opportunity. If you're having this problem, then other people might also be having it. You have the opportunity to not only fix it in your own life, but create something that can fix it in other's lives as well. This is how the majority of businesses start - Someone has a problem (or sees that a problem exists), They create a solution to that problem, and then create a business around selling that solution (or giving it away) to help others.

I think fear is the reason we sink our own ships and shoot ourselves in the foot.

Fear of change, success, being different, failure, commitment, all the above. The best way I've found to overcome the fear is finding something that trumps all the rest. I fear mediocrity and becoming a jack of all trades (aka a jack of nothin').  And I fear a life wasted by doing nothing, saying nothing and being nothing.

My strength and resolve comes from knowing that continuous action and improvement will beat mediocrity every time, and gives me the strength to try with all that I have. And even if (when) I fail, I'll know I've given it my all, and can use what I've learned from that failure for what I do next.

My ship may be sinking, but I'm gonna do all that I can to turn it into a submarine before it goes under.

"Just imagine how much you'd get done if you stopped actively sabotaging your own work."
- Seth Godin -

It's time for us to take action - because action is what it's going to take to achieve victory.

So start that project / book / blog / business / pursuit. Deepen those relationships. Care about yourself and your health. Go do what you've been neglecting to do.
